Things happen
I’ve always believed that there are three types of people in this world. Let’s take a look and see if you can relate to what I’m talking about.
People who make things happen
These kind of people are the ones who are on top of it. They have a clearly defined vision for where they’re headed, and they most likely have a vehicle to get there. They are navigators in their lifestyle… anticipating and solving problems before they occur, communicating effectively with the people they work with, planning ahead, and managing most elements of their day to day life with ease and grace. Executives, top sales people, entrepreneurs, and some front line operation managers are good examples of the kind of people who are accustomed to making things happen.
People who allow things to happen
These people may or may not be incredibly ambitious in their lifestyle. If they are, they are generally not terribly aggressive in their pursuits, shying away from unfamiliar territory and settling comfortably in neutral areas. These kind of people can easily fall into a routine from day to day, believing to themselves that they are achieving growth by accomplishing tasks. This disorientation is often caused by the lack of a clearly defined vision, or possibly the lack of the appropriate vehicle to achieve the vision they want. These people may spend more time reacting to problems than anticipating them, making them less effective, and in the confusion, they may potentially lose a handle on a different issue entirely. However, with the right tools, a good coach, and a measure of discipline, these people can certainly acquire basic navigation and communication skills to build on, which will allow them to become more and more effective. Unless they’re simply mismatched to their respective job or task and are better suited to something else, first time business owners, front line management, and low-yield salespeople may be good examples of the kind of people who allow things to happen.
People who look around saying, “Whoa! What the heck just happened?”
This type of person typically does not have a vision of where they want to go. With no vision, it’s certainly difficult to choose a direction or the appropriate vehicle to carry them to the lifestyle they desire. Basic navigation skills and effective communication skills may be rusty and out of practice, because these people tend to be strongly reactive to what’s going on around them. This kind of person is often caught by surprise, usually due to misunderstanding caused by poor communication or a lack of critical thinking. If these people catch the spark of entrepreneurship, it’s likely to be from the absolute wrong opportunity… late night TV offers and network marketing “at home” businesses tend to attract this type of person, because those businesses are tailored for appeal. In general, this person can certainly improve their skills and move ahead in life, but it’s likely to come only with a lot of work.

we need more of the first type of people. more movers and shakers would be nice. a lot of people seem to just wait for things to happen and it’s leaving so much talent wasted.
