Thoughts on growth

Based on my experiences, I believe that one key to growth is getting good at removing things from your plate and freeing yourself up mentally so you can focus your attention on something else. When I started blogging, I felt like I was qualified to share my thoughts and experiences on entrepreneurship, but there are technical areas of working on the internet that elude me. There’s a learning curve that goes along with being a new blogger that’s been difficult, even painful, for me to navigate… and I’m a pretty tough kid!

This week I hired a web developer to manage a list of issues that I have with my site. I spoke to him on the telephone today and was surprised to hear how quickly he expected to plow through my list… there were issues he tells me will take him only 15 minutes to complete, and I was almost embarrassed to tell him that I’d been trying to figure that one thing out for two weeks! Of course, I’m not a professional web developer, and he is.

The point here is this… offloading things that you aren’t qualified to deal with is a good way to compress your time. When you take 40 to 50 hours of frustration and troubleshooting and eliminate that completely by outsourcing it to someone who’s qualified to handle it, then you’re 40 to 50 hours ahead of yourself, and you’ve created an opportunity to grow.

Tomorrow’s Monday… the busiest day of the week for my site. I’ll follow up on this thought Monday with an article that talks about how to isolate the time you’ve saved and reinvest it into the growth of your business. See you tomorrow!
